[April 10th, 20:25, Menaulion hangar]
Kara hummed idly as she monitored the screen in front of her. Set next to her machine, she was sat in front of a console directly connected to the Neu Alma’s cockpit; she was making the final adjustments to accommodate for the Longbow. Nothing particularly fancy, simply a set of tests, but a task that needed to be done nonetheless. She glanced at the giant gunmetal piece; What an unsightly piece of equipment, she thought. Still, it was a complex weapon put together in record time, so there was no room to complain, quite the contrary. As the console beeped, she compared the result to its corresponding line on her tablet, validated it, and set up the next one.
Once done, she lifted her head and looked around briefly. Didn’t Lin say she’d “pass by” tonight? Something about bonding, wasn’t it? The hangar was however fairly silent tonight, if not for the background mechanical noises from the repair crew still hard at work. She shrugged and went back to monitoring the console.
Lin took her promises very, very seriously. Nevermind that it sounded like more of a passing comment, but Lin said she was going to be there at 20:20, and it was now five minutes past. Even though she was late, the young pilot couldn’t help but stop and look at the Kirin. She didn’t give it much time, however; the sight of it still in repairs left her with an uncomfortable feeling. Holding the small notebook in her arms even closer to her chest, Lin forced herself onward.
“Sorry I’m late.” As Lin approached Kara, her eyes went towards the lit console and the odd, new attachment to the Neu Alma. “I, ah… hope I’m not interrupting anything. Because I was late.”
… she said that twice, didn’t she. Damn it.
Kara turned to her and smiled. “Nah don’t worry, it’s a pretty simple procedure anyway.” She grabbed another foldable seat from between the crates and set it up next to her for Lin. “How are you doing, by the way?”
There was a bit of hesitation on Lin’s part, but she took her seat on the chair provided. “Itchy scars notwithstanding, I’m doing alright.” A bit of an overstatement considering how ugly said scars looked alongside the circles under her eyes, but Lin seemed better than she did a few days ago. “And you?”
“Hm.” Kara gazed at her face before looking at the console again. “I’m doing alright. Nothing or noone really to complain or worry about anymore for now, so that’s nice.”
A small silence fell, increasingly awkward. Kara pointed at the notebook Lin was holding. “Say, you don’t see those all that often anymore. Drawings?”
Lin loosened her grip on the notebook, holding it gently in her hands so Kara could get a better view of it -- not that it was anything special: just a small, brown notebook with a pencil attached to the binding.
“Drawings, notes, such like that. It’s more inconvenient than just using a handheld, but I just find it nicer for jotting things down. Speaking of which.”
Lin made no effort to hide the contents as she thumbed through the pages, so glimpses of sketches and colors and writings far too small to be properly read at a glance could be seen until finally, she stopped at two pages filled with what seemed like several numbered lines of writing.
“I mentioned earlier that I wanted to spend some bonding time with you, yes? I figured the best way to do so was with some questions, since I don’t really know much about you… or, uh, anyone else, for that matter.”
“...oh!”, Kara replied, slightly surprised. “That’s ...quite the rational idea actually. And if you’ve compiled a list already then alright, all the better!” She laughed and continued. “Okay, shoot ‘em.”
