Lead Engineer Yasmith “Yaz” Herrera Martín
Age: 38
Gender: Female
Appearance: Tan skin is often mottled by grease stains, machine oil, and grime. Her dark brown hair is kept in a tight bun when she’s on-duty, but she likes to keep it long and free during her scarce off-hours. She has nearly oil-black eyes. Though she’s not particularly tall, Yaz strikes a powerful figure with particularly impressive biceps. Yaz is rarely seen without either a (once) white a-shirt and jeans or the standard mechanic’s variation on the piloting suit. Her mechanical left arm is more multi-tool than limb, a simplistic clamp replacing individual fingers. She instead uses the arm as a whole host of power tools, including a drill, laser cutter, and jack hammer. Inside a small socket on her mechanical arm she carried smaller tools when she needs a more delicate touch.
Backstory: The daughter of a lifelong car mechanic, Yasmith always knew she wanted to be ‘under the hood’. She joined the military fresh out of high school to help pay her college tuition and earn some valuable experience as a mechanic. The Six-Month War began in her last few months of active duty, forcing her to spend long nights fixing up beaten and broken BLADEs, CLUBs, and DAGGERs. She discovered a newfound love for AAs and decided to sign up for a second term of active service.
Several years later, Yaz suffered a serious injury after a miscommunication between another engineer moved an arm joint in the AA they were working on, crushing her arm between it. She now emphasizes clear communication and strict adherence to safety protocols among all engineers and pilots. She makes sure to stencil on safety instructions with spray paint over custom paint jobs.
